A resource center for women with chronic, life threatening and/or disabling illness
Serving Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet & Eastham on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Helping Our Women, similar to many other non-profit organizations, would be unable to meet our mission without the hard work of volunteers. There are several roles for those who want to volunteer with HOW. We rely on our volunteer Board of Directors to set policy and help provide the resources needed to maintain day to day operation of the organization.

HOW client service volunteers respond to a request for help from the staff with empathy, compassion and practical resources. One of the most pressing problems for those living with serious illnesses on the outer Cape is lack of access to transportation to medical appointments and for some essential errands such as grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions.

Our Transportation Program volunteers provide rides for clients to appointments on Cape Cod. HOW maintains an auto liability policy to cover volunteers in their own vehicles and we are able to provide gas reimbursement. Working with HOW Office Administrator/Client Advocate, volunteers have many options in how often or far they choose to drive (we do not ask volunteers to drive off-Cape). Volunteers often tell the staff about how rewarding their work is. And, we often hear from clients that the companionship when going to a difficult medical appointment is as important as the transportation.

Volunteers may also help with fundraising events and activities.
